How do I reply to a Rummble SMS?

The message will include the username of the person who sent it. To reply, simply send a text message to the number shown on your Rummble Mobile Settings page with the persons username followed by your message. For example, to send a text saying How r u? to a user called Emily you would send a text containing: Emily how r u? and send it to the number shown on your home page.

What if I don't want to receive texts at particular times during the day?

Log in to www.rummble.com as usual, and click on 'Set When To Receive', there on the Rummble scheduler, you can control when you will receive Rummble text messages. The text messages will wait on our servers and then be sent to your phone as soon as your next receive window arrives. This does not affect the receipt of regular non-Rummble messages to your mobile handset.

How do I stop someone specific texting me?

Send a message in the usual way (sending it to the number on your Rummble Mobile Settings page) and include the user's username followed by the word block ON ITS OWN. So, if you want to block a user called Emily you would send: Emily block . You can unblock a user in the similar way, by sending a message: Emily unblock.

How do I allow someone to send me Rummble's again if I have blocked them?

Send a message to the user in the usual way (sending it to the number on your Rummble Mobile Settings page) and include the user's username followed by the word unblock ON ITS OWN. So, if you had blocked a user called Emily and wanted to unblock that user, you would send: Emily unblock. You can block or unblock a user as many times as you like. If you try and unblock a user you have not blocked, nothing will happen.

How do I find out more about someone?

Send a message to the number on your Rummble Mobile Settings page with the persons username and a questions mark. So, to find our more about a user called "Emily" you would send: "Emily?" and we will send you back more information about Emily. Alternatively you can visit the website and search for the user.

Are any words automatically blocked by the system?

We intermittently monitor the content of Rummble messages for abusive or offensive language. We also have a system which will remove or dilute those words that some users might find offensive. Any users repeatedly breaking the guidelines outlined within the Rummble Terms and Conditions will be permanently barred from use of the service. To read the Rummble Terms and Conditions please go to the main menu and select Terms and Conditions.

Can I send picture/MMS messages?

In the very near future we will be making it possible for you to send photos/MMS to other Rummble users. Until recently most of the network operators did not support cross-network picture-messaging; some still don't. There are also some issues regarding compatibility of phones. Soon these issues will be sorted out. We also don't want to provide our users with a service until it is easy to use & reliable. Once this happens we will launch a new version of Rummble which includes this functionality! So WATCH THIS SPACE! We expect to launch full picture messaging services before the end of 2007.

I have a technical problem or question that is not answered here, what do I do?

If you have a question that is not covered in these topics, please complete the Contact us feedback form . If your query is not covered, we will add additional information to this FAQ section and reply when it has been updated.

Rummble on WAP

  • How do I enter a bookmark into my phone?
  • What is WAP?
  • Is a WAP site HTML?
  • What does it cost to use the Rummble WAP site?

The WAP version of the Rummble mobile service is available by going to: http://www.rummble.com from your mobile device browser. You will then get the choice of visiting the WAP site, downloading the Rummble mobile Java application, or visiting the regular internet site (we only recommend you use the regular website on your mobile if you have a suitable handheld device with a big enough screen and fast enough connection!)

If you have a phone from 2005 or later, it is worth trying to download our free Rummble mobile Java application, which gives a better user experience than the WAP site.

How do I enter a bookmark on my phone?

The answer to this question depends on your phone. It is best to refer to your mobile phone manufacturers handbook to find how to enter a bookmark for a WAP site.

What is WAP?

WAP stands for Wireless Access Protocol. It is is an open international standard for applications that use wireless communication. Its principal application is to enable access to the Internet from a mobile phone or PDA.

Many newer mobile phones now include browsers than can read full XHTML or HTML from regular websites; however if you are using a slow connection (such as GPRS) then it can be very boring to use as you wait for pages to load. So, the trade off is that with our WAP site you get a faster experience, but its less fun to look at! You choose!

Is a WAP site HTML?

A true WAP site is written in WMP, the Wireless Markup Language, based on XML, is a content format for devices that implement the WAP Wireless Application Protocol specification, such as mobile phones, and preceded the use of other markup languages now used with WAP, such as XHTML and even standard HTML (which are gaining in popularity as processing power in mobile devices increases).

What does it cost to use the Rummble WAP site?

We don't charge anything for Rummble over WAP, but your mobile operator may charge you for using "data services" depending on your tariff. More about cost of data services.

Rummble Mobile on Java

  • What is it?
  • Will it work on my phone?
  • Where do I get it? How do I download it?
  • Is it free?
  • What do i need for it to work?
  • What can I use it for?

What is it?

Rummble mobile (or the "Java application") is a downloadable application written in J2ME that should work on nearly all MIDP 2.0 compliant mobile phones. You can use Rummble from your mobile and instant message other users, including your friends on other networks.

Will it work on my phone?

Rummble mobile should work on any Java MIDP2.0 compliant mobile phone. Unlike the big companies, we can't test Rummble mobile on 1000's of phones, so our wonderful users play a big part in helping us test it and fix it to work on new phones. The best thing to do is to try it!

See the list of phones that we know work with Rummble.

Where do I get it? How do I download it?

Download the application .jar file to your computer, and transfer it to your phone.

Or visit our download page on CNET

Is it free?

The Java app is free - we don't charge you to download it or use it. However, your mobile provider may charge you to connect to the internet from your mobile. More about the cost

What do I need for it to work?

You need a Java MIDP 2.0 phone (Most phones made after 2004 are compatible!)

Your phone tarrif or phone connection with your mobile provider must allow data/WAP connection (you can call your mobile network operator and ask them for this if you do not have it).

What can I use it for?

The Rummble Java app has most of the basic functionality of the Rummble website and we are adding to it all the time. You can:

  • Log in and set your location
  • search who is nearby
  • get profiles of users
  • instant message users nearby
  • instant message any of your friends on Rummble and see their location
  • block a user
  • invite friends to join by SMS
