Java (Rummble mobile) Cost
The Rummble mobile J2ME Java application (or "mobile client" as some people call it) is free, we do not charge you for the Java client. It is free to use.
Like all other Java mobile instant messenger or social network applications, the Rummble mobile application uses a data connection from your mobile phone to access the internet.
Depending on your tariff and on your mobile network operator, they may charge you for using data services. Data services include visiting WAP sites, surfing the mobile internet, surfing regular web pages from the internet, on your mobile phone, or using an application which connects to the internet.
What exactly will it cost to use data services? Is it expensive?
We can't tell you what it will cost - you have to call your mobile network operator and ask them.
Can you give me any idea?
Costs vary from operator to operator. Operators may charge for time spent browsing or amount of data downloaded. E.g. If an operator charges £2 per MB of data downloaded, it would cost approx. 1 penny to read thirty pages on the Rummble WAP site. Consult your operator to find out their specific charges.
Character for character, it will be x100 cheaper (or more!) than sending a typical SMS message, using our Instant Messenger; but to get an accurate idea of data cost you should ask your mobile network operator.
There are usually 1 of 5 situations using data on your mobile:
- You cant access data services at all (you will need to call your mobile company)
- You can access data services but in a restricted way (your mobile operator chooses which websites you can or cant see)
- You can access data services but it is charged per Kilobyte or Megabyte (usually around £2 ($4) a MB (megabyte) but this can vary a lot. 1 Megabyte is 10,000 characters, so you can see it is cheaper than sending a 160 character SMS for 10p (20c)
- You can access data services and have an "included bundle" on your tariff (typically 1mb, 6mb or 12mb etc included)
- You can access data services as much as you want, included in your tariff "Unlimited internet" (this is like broadband at home where you pay a fixed monthly cost to use the internet as much as you want).
